The call for the fire at the former Cozzy's Place restaurant at 256 Hooker Ave., came in about 2:20 a.m., Tuesday, July 2 said City of Poughkeepsie Fire Chief Mark Johnson.

The first firefighters on the scene found fire on the upper floor of the two-and-half-story building.

"They (the firefighters) attacked the fire from the second floor to access the attic area where the fire was located," the chief said.

Firefighters were able to gain control within 15 minutes and had extinguished the fire in about 40 minutes, Johnson said.

Most of the damage was contained to the third floor with fire and water damage.

Johnson said there was a current permit pulled for renovations on the building so no gas or electric was connected to the structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

The department was assisted by Arlington and Fairview fire departments, as well as Mobile Life.
